A Memorable 16th August: Competitions for Cultural and National Awareness
August 16, 2025   |   Kannada Medium School , NITK Surathkal
On 16 August, SENA Foundation organized a crafts competition and singing competition for students of a Kannada medium school, based on the themes of Krishna Janmashtami and Independence Day. These activities created a joyful learning environment and helped students understand cultural and national values in a meaningful way. The crafts competition encouraged students to express their creativity using simple materials. Many students made drawings, models, and decorations related to Lord Krishna and the freedom struggle of India. For Kannada medium students, this activity helped them learn about festivals and national history in a practical and enjoyable manner. While preparing their craft items, students improved their concentration, imagination, and patience. They also learned the importance of cleanliness, time management, and presentation. The singing competition gave students an opportunity to express themselves confidently. Students sang devotional songs related to Krishna Janmashtami and patriotic songs on Independence Day. Initially, some students were nervous, but the supportive environment helped them overcome their fear. Singing in front of others boosted their self confidence and improved their voice clarity and pronunciation. For many Kannada medium students, this was their first experience performing on a stage, which became a memorable and motivating moment in their school life. These competitions helped students understand the cultural importance of Janmashtami and the value of freedom and unity associated with Independence Day. They learned to respect Indian traditions and feel proud of the nation. Participation also taught them discipline, cooperation, and respect for fellow students. The volunteers of SENA Foundation also gained valuable experience through organizing these events. Planning competitions helped volunteers develop coordination, creativity, and leadership skills. They learned how to encourage children, judge fairly, and manage events smoothly. Watching the enthusiasm and happiness of the students gave volunteers a sense of satisfaction and strengthened their belief in value-based education. Through the crafts and singing competitions held on 16 August, SENA Foundation successfully combined cultural learning with creative expression. Kannada medium students gained confidence, creativity, and cultural awareness, while volunteers grew as responsible individuals committed to nurturing young minds with knowledge and values.
